Gina Litherland at Corbett vs. Dempsey
(link)
The symbolist painter is useful to today in describing - as an instruction manual to - the awkward staging that connotes the intent to objects that make them be "brimming with significance." The effect so easy to recognize as a stylistic mechanism in painting but still bracing in sculpture. This Symbolic composition becomes a schematic for the stilted installation decisions that underpin the Object Oriented.
